My favorite place, Mi Tierra," also has music. The food is the best:

Lalo's is my second choice. It has a few restaurants with the first (1971) in its original storefront in Little Village. Now there are 11 more locations. See below...watch the intro:

La Condesa 3 is a gem that looks like it was a truck stop about 20 years ago. Today it has a truly authentic menu:

Nuevo Leon is very popular with many hungry Mexicans but not my favorite. It's located on 18th ST:

For upscale Mexican gourmet, try the New Rebozo in Oak Park:

Another Oak Park upscale Mexican restaurant is Fuego Loco. It has another location in Elmhurst:

Forget Pepe's, forget Taco Bell (fake Mexican food) and forget Chipotle. There are many Mexican restaurants that serve authentic Mexican food, and many others that serve upscale Mexican food as well. The best way to find a good spot is to go with your family and/or friends to as many places as you can until you find what you consider to be the best place. I'm not very familiar with the West/Southwest areas, so I can't recommend a good place around there. Good luck.

Maria's in Rosemont, they also have another location on Harlem Avenue. That is my favorite real Mexican restaurant. Lalo's is also good. There are plenty of mexican restaurants on 26th street (little village), also in Melrose Park as well.

I give Maria's the ultimate 5 star.
