A group of friends and I go to BYOB restaurants every Tuesday. Most of them have been good places, and a few are just phenomenal. Can you tell me of a good BYOB place and where it is located? It doesn't have to be American food. In fact, we've had food from many different countries and we do prefer to try food from other countries. We've gone to about 75 places in the last two years, but we know there's many more that we haven't seen or heard of yet. Most of my friends live on the north side, but we're open to going anywhere in Chicago.

Here are some favorites, but there are just too many to even know about. I would also check out metromix.

Schwa - expensive but great.

Think - in Bucktown

Tango Sur - Argentinean Steaks in Lakeview

Coast - Sushi in Bucktown (might not be BYOB anymore)

Hema's Kitchen - Indian on Devon

Penny's Noddles - everyone knows Penny's

Dorado - French/ Mexican in Lincoln Square

La Cucina di Donatella - Italian in Rogers Park

There are probably hundreds more. Good Luck.

How funny. I was reading this afternoon in Chicago Magazine an article on some of their top picks for BYOB places in this month's issue!

I'll be moving to Chicago next month, so while I'm not super familiar with restaurants in the area, definetely check out Cozy Noodles and Rice in Wrigleyville area. It's a BYOB, and some of the yummiest noodles you'll find :)

BONSOIREE: Modern American. You'll find it hard to resist bringing your favorite wine to compliment this upscale dinner menu at very reasonable prices. Main Entrees include the grand marnier seared salmon and the spicy seared filet mignon. This elegant modern cafe in gentrifying Logan Square is a great new addition to the neighborhood and is equidistant from the California and Western blue line L stops. 2728 W. Armitage. www.bon-soiree.com/cafe

COAST: Sushi. Located in Chicago's western Bucktown neighborhood, this classy sushi restaurant is a great place to bring a couple bottles of wine. The food is excellent with a menu offering everything from beginner to adventurous sushi. The restaurant is relaxed and hip, but not too trendy. The location is wonderful, plopped in between some of Bucktown's trendiest shops and bars. 2045 N. Damen Ave. www.coastsushibar.com/

PENNY'S: Thai. Penny's is a small, corner establishment in the heart of Wrigleyville. Delicious thai and an great outdoor seating area brings the masses everynight of the week. There is a liqour store across the street with a decent wine selection that you can pop in before heading over. I suggest the German sweet wines to compliment the spicy dishes you'll be served at Penny's! 3400 N. Sheffield Ave. www.pennysnoodleshop.com/

LAS TABLAS: South American Steakhouse. Perfectly seasoned beef and rice can be found at this amazing BYOB. Great ambiance with candles at each table and great music, accompanied by an even better outdoor eating area. Walking distance to the heart of Lincoln Park, this is must eat in Chicago. 2965 N. Lincoln Ave.

MAMACITA'S: Mexican. Grab some Corona's and loosen your belt for this Chicago staple. You'll enjoy everything from burritos to fajita plates and good crowds at this young, Northside eatery. The restaurant is very inviting with Spanish tiles while the outdoor seating area is great for mucho people watching. 2439 N. Clark St.

Try Cafe 103, located near 103 and Longwood in Beverly. It opened last year over the summer, I believe. The meals are all prepared by chefs at Beverly's Pantry, a specialty baking store adjacent to Cafe 103.

I have not yet been, but I have heard from neighborhood friends that it is a delicious restaurant. Highly recommended.

Seating is quite limited, so you should make reservations.

There is a new menu everyday, ranging from ordinary to exotic selections.

It is just a short walk from the Metra, if you decide to take the train.

how about schwa?

it's nicer food -- not cheap -- but cheaper than what you'll find at the more swanky places.

your tuesday nights sound like a fun tradition. if you end up at schwa, let me know how you like it.
